Don't know if you're aware of this or not, but Davis is an extremely common name in Chester county, much like a Smith or Jones. It is a Welsh name....they had a peculiar naming pattern that caused the surname to be a male given name, so always suspect Welsh origins when dealing with a surname that is generally thought a given name. The spellings Davies, David, Davis are used interchangeably though area records, so you have your work cut out for you. Without further info on Benjamin (such as some of his children, etc, it's going to be nigh impossible to figure out if he is any of those Benjamins in various local resources....ditto for the name David Davis.)
I checked the CD of PA wills, and there is no will in the name Davis/Davies/David for the year 1817...how sure are you that the date is correct? (there are several a few years before this date).
