I would appreciate it if anyone could let me know about any of the children of Thomas Watson. What happened to James and the girls? Below is what I have so far. Thanks. 1 Thomas WATSON, GGG Grandfather ————————————————————————————————————————————— Birth: ca 1771, Pennsylvania Death: abt 1825, Toby Township, Clarion Co., Pa. Occ: Farmer, Operated Salt Works Reli: Presbyterian Father: James Riddle WATSON, GGGG Grandfather (1741-1822) Mother: Mary/Ann/Nancy EVANS, GGGG Grandmother (-ca1791) Thomas Watson was said to have been in the vicinity of Curllsville by 1802-1804. He moved from Centre to Clarion County with a group of people and settled at Polk Furnace. Watson was said to have lived near Nicholas Baliett, now called Polliard, who settled there in 1801 on the same farm to be owned by Nicholas Shiry in 1820. Also, in the same area, was William Wilson. Mr. Watson was one of a colony of people who removed from Centre to Clarion County and settled at what is called Polk Furnace. About 1812, Colonel Watson moved to Deer Creek on the Clarion River, where he drilled the first well for salt in Clarion county at the mouth of Deer Creek. Some time later, Abraham and James, sons of Thomas, were working at night with a lamp or torch when the well took fire, burning the rig and the surrounding structure. The salt water seemed to be mixed with a mysterious yellow fluid of a strong odor, and very inflammable. Mr. Watson next moved to what is now known as the Watson farm, near Sligo, where he “improved” the land and resided until he died. Thomas Watson was said to have been a Colonel in the War of 1812 who participated in the Black Rock Campaign; however, he was not a member of either of the companies organized in Clarion Co. Another account says that he was in the commissary department of the army, principally engaged in shipping cattle through Erie, PA, where large numbers of soldiers were encamped. The first church in Clarion Co. that was organized was the Presbyterian. Its first pastor, the Rev. Robert McGarrah, began to preach as early as 1804. Rev. McGarrah officiated also at Licking Church (now Churchville), and occasionally at a church called Concord, in Perry township. The elders at Licking Church were John Henry, Thomas Watson and James Laughlin. Spouse: Hannah STANDFORD, GGG Grandmother Birth: ca 1781, Pennsylvania Death: aft 1830 Reli: Presbyterian Father: Abraham STANDFORD/STANFORD, GGGG Grandfather (1754-1829) Mother: Mary, GGGG Grandmother Another source says that Thomas’s wife was Hannah Wilson. (Could Thomas have been married twice, with both women called Hannah?) In the 1820 census, it is shown that there are 8 female children and 3 male children living with Thomas and Hannah Watson. There are 2 girls listed in the 1830 census (living with Hannah Watson) who are between the ages of 10 and 14 and also 2 girls who are 15 to 19. One boy is listed between the ages of 15 and 19 years of age; this would be Lot Watson, who was around 16 years old at the time. The will is witnessed by Jacob Watterson, John Early, and James Watson. 1.3 Mary WATSON, GGG Aunt ————————————————————————————————————————————— Birth: ca 1805 1.4 Hannah WATSON, GGG Aunt ————————————————————————————————————————————— Birth: 11 May 1807, Near Curllsville, Piney Township, Clarion Co., PA Death: 18 Oct 1901, Clarion Co., PA Reli: Presbyterian In her obituary, it says that she was one of a family of 11 children, all of whom preceded her in death. The Pittsburgh Legal Journal (1909, p. 206?) mentions that James Watson Over, Judge of the Orphans Court, Fifth Judicial District (Allegheny County), State of Pennsylvania, is the son of John and Sarah (Watson) Over amd was born in April, 1843 in Clarion County, PA. (This may be in another part of the journal, as I was unable to locate this in the paper copy.) In 1850, Clemens Watson, age 23, was living with John Over and Sarah. This would have been the son of Sarah’s nephew, son of her oldest brother, Abraham Watson, born 1800. Spouse: John OVER Birth: 7 Dec 1806, Pennsylvania Death: 10 Apr 1901, Clarion, Clarion County, PA Occ: Worked In Iron Works In Pittsburgh Father: Christian OBER/OVER, GGGG Uncle (1782-1868) Mother: Mary Nancy WHITMORE/WITMER) (1790-1863) John and Sarah had moved from Armstrong County, PA to Pittsburgh by the 1870 Census.
