Dear Mrs. Burkett,

You are on the money. The date you have for Samuel is accurate. Now George, his brother, I believe to be my direct anscestor. Do you have a list of his children so that I can confirm this? I have found Jacob and Mary Louise Barnhill, my ancestors, on the 1860 Census as living in Salt Creek Township, Wayne County Ohio. I also find George living there prior until his death in 1845(He moved from PA). I believe my Jacob to be his son.

Yes, DeWalta Halberger and Elizabeth (no last name) are the parents of DeWalt Halberg and Mathias. DeWalt Halberg is the father of Jacob who is the father of Jacob and Abraham. Jacob senior's wife was Elizabeth, a full-blooded Wyandot whose father was Sen Tah Mas. She is buried at the Indian Mission Cemetary on the Upper Sandusky. Abraham's wife was named Hill, a full-blooded Wyandot. We have yet to find Isaac, but believe he existed due to a Moravian naming practice wherein the 3 Patriarchs names are used: Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. To us, it sure looks like Jacob Senior may have been following this Moravian Missionary custom of the time. Much peril occurred on the frontier back then.

Best,
Phil Reed Halfhill
PS: The name originally was Halberger and that is often shortened as Halberg. It means: Half Hill. I believe it was translated to the Wyandots as they traded with the English.
