A photo of "Hi Wood" from the early 1870s was shared with me recently and I am trying to find relatives to confirm which Hiram Wood he is. The photo was taken by S. G. Rogers, Waynesburg, Penna. "Hi" was a young man in the photo and the caption labels him a "beau of Aunt Kate" who is likely Catherine (Staggers) Bowlby from whose family the photos came. Other beaus include "Lee Worley" who I believe is Jesse Lee Worley, son of John Inghram Worley & Maria Gordon; Eli Titus, who I believe is the son of Thomas Titus & Orpha Gregg; Bill Spragg & Marion Spragg, who I believe are sons of Caleb Spragg & Sarah Johnson. Anyone interested in any of these fellows, please contact me. With regard to Hiram, I have researched every Hiram Wood I found in Greene County, PA 1850-1880. There are 2 strong possibilities: Hiram C., born 1851, son of John D. Wood & Sibble Barnes. Hiram married Sarah Jane Orndoff in 1873, but the fashions of this photo really suggest it was taken 1870-1874, so this could have been taken prior to his marriage. Hiram R., born 1860, son of Isaac K. Wood & Rachel Braden. This Hiram seems a bit young, unless I am wrong about the photo date and the photo was taken in the later 1870s. He did live in Whiteley Twp., however, which is where Catherine (Staggers) Bowlby lived. If "Aunt Kate" is Catherine (Staggers) Bowlby, she married in 1878. I think Hiram C. is the likely candidate here, but I'd really like to find a relative who may be able to help confirm his identity. One other Greene County Hiram, born about 1853, son of William Wood & Hannah Hartley, moved to Michigan between 1860-1870, so I really don't think this is him. However, all feedback is welcome. Thanks for any help! Candice candicelynnb@yahoo.com Notify Administrator about this message?
