I have just started on this line of the family. But, I can tell you that so far, I don't have a daughter Charlotte for any of Duncan and Julia (Spafford) McDonald's known children. Both Duncan and Julia were born in New York. From what I've found so far, they moved around quite a bit. Julia's parent's are Marcus and Hannah (Bristol) Spafford (reference: "Bristol Genealogy", by Warren Edwin Bristol and distributed by the Bristol Family Association.) Julia's sister (Myra) also married a McDonald (Isaac), but I have not discerned yet, whether the 2 were related.
