Well this is confusing and a mystery. I have about 10 Deeds dated May 1823 through Nov 1831. Some of the deeds describe the land as, "150 acres inherited from father, James Wells, adjoining lands of Daniel Fuller, Joab Bailey, John Lemley Henry Hain on North Fork of Whitely Creek." In the deed of July 31, 1830 between Rebecca Wells and John Hamilton, both of Whitely it states: "Whereas James Wells late of the Township, county and state aforesaid died intestate and seized in his demesne as of fee of in and to a certain tract of land situate in Whitely Township in the county and state aforesaid containing one hundred and fifty acres more or less, adjoining lands of Daniel Fuller, Joab Baily, John Lemley, John Loar and others and Whereas the said James Wells left issue eleven children to wit: Jane, Nancy, Abraham, William, Elizabeth, John, Priscilla, James, Rebecca, (the present grantor), Sarah and Dorothy." Additionally there is a petition in the Orphan court filed Waynesburg in Nov 1832 in which James Stephens petitioning for the property to be divided sets forth, "that James Wells lately died intestate leaving . . . ten children to wit Abraham, William, John, James, Sarah intermarried with Jesse Worley, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Jane intermarried with Abraham Shriver . . . Dorothy and Nancy intermarried with Robert Bradford." (Priscilla is missing) This again describes the land as, "situate in Whitely Township adjoining lands of Joab Baily, Esquire, John Lemly and others containing 150 acres." So I believe the Orphans Court document you referenced dated 28 Feb 1816 belongs to this same James Wells and the children match up assuming that Jane, Abraham, William, Nancy and Elizabeth were older than needing a guardian. Also the fact that Joab Baily was a neighbor and appointed guardian seems to match. I cannot account for the additional children names you show from the Tenmile book of Eleanor, Joseph, Benjamin, Susannah, Nancy married to Owens, Elizabeth married to Price or Godfrey Guseman, or why you do not show Jane, Abraham, William. Can anyone help solve this mystery?!? Any ideas or sources?
