My father was in the 8-23-1945 US Naval Training Center in Sampson NY. His name was Junius Harold Dowell. He was from Garfield, KY there were only three other men from KY in the class. My father was assigned to the USS Balitmore CA 68.
My father had a picture of the group and on the back it looks as if everyone signed the picture. There were 32 from PA. I don't know how many in training center was assigned to the USS Balitmore.
Some of the names are Guy M. Tichler; Homer Plimpton; Rudolph Bellan; Frank Baumgartner; Clarence Barron; Howard Kubler.
The USS Balitmore was in the Pacific Theater 1945 - 1946.
If your family member was on the USS Balitmore I would like to know anything about what they did during the time of 1945 -1946.
