I'm looking for info on John & Mary. My 2nd cousin sent me the following. Now John Cross was born somewhere in the late 1700's and died in 1834. He married Mary Fitzpatrick who was born Dec. 10, 1796 and died May 26, 1871. Her parents are James Fitzpatrick and Sarah Williams (My fourth great grandparents). Some of the distant cousins say that Mary was born on the ocean as her family was coming from Ireland. I do know that the Fitzpatricks and Williams were Irish so this may be true. I have not found a record of birth although I did find her death record in the Gallia Co., Ohio courthouse along with her will. That is where I came up with a birth date. John Cross and Mary Fitzpatrick Cross married in Columbiana Co. Ohio on June 8, 1818. From records that I have, they lived in Columbiana co. Ohio and across the state line in Beaver County, Pennsylvania. I have copies of old census records that list John as head of household and living in Beaver Co. PA. I also have a copy of a paper that says that at the time of John Cross' death he was living in Beaver Co. PA. and that listed on his will was the following: His wife, Mary, children: John Cross, James Henry Cross, Lorena Cross (which were all children of John and Mary) as well as a Sarah Cross. I do not know who Sarah is. She could possibly be a sister to the old John or a child of his from a previous marriage. Still need to find proof on her. We descend from John and Mary Fitzpatrick Cross' son James Henry Cross. James Henry Cross, gg-grandfather, was born around 1827 in Pennsylvania and died sometime after 1860 and before 1868 as his widow had remarried by then. James Henry Cross married Sarah Long in Gallia Co. Ohio April 23, 1848. And to this marriage was born 3 children. I have a copy of this marriage record. Sarah Long Cross' parents were Morris Long and Caroline Matilda Huntley. (The Long and Huntley families were very prominent families back then) James and Sarah Cross' children were John Morris Cross, Caroline Matilda Cross, and William Henry Cross. We descend from William Henry Cross (great-grandfather). Some records I have gives Williams place of birth as Jackson Co. Ohio and some give it as Gallia Co. Ohio. William was born March 25, 1854 and died November 13, 1933. He married November 5, 1876 in Gallia Co. Ohio Alamanda Everts. Her parents were David Everts and Sarah Call (gg-grandparents). The Everts and Call families came to Ohio out of Pennsylvania. They were coal miners. Alamanda Everts Cross was born January 12, 1862 and died August 30, 1930. She and Wil- liam are buried in the Fairview Cemetery here in Perry Twp. Pike co. Ohio. According to a census record that I have on William and Alamanda, it ask how many children are you the mother of and she says 10 how many now living and she says 7. Listed are 8 of the ten children. I already knew that 7 boys grew to adulthood and then I found a record of a little girls birth to them in Gallia Co Ohio. So now the count is up to 8. Although I never found a death record on the little girl Lovina I knew that she should have been in the house- hold on the census and she wasn't listed so this tells me she died before adulthood. Also by the other two children not listed anywhere on the census records that I have they had to have died before adulthood too. Here are the known children's names. Simon "Berlie" Cross, Lovina Cross, Howard Cross, Charles Albert "Chuck" Cross, William "Bill" Cross, Frank Cross, James Cross, and Luther "Happy" Cross (grandpa). Luther Cross married Lilly Magnolia (Maggie) Cross. These are my grandparents. Their children are Howard Cross "Boy" born 1916, John Cross "Pete" born 1919, Raymond "Ray" Cross born 1921, Don Cross born 1925, Junior Franklin Cross born 1926 (He is your grandpa of course!), Joe Cross born 1929, Alfred "Alf" Cross born 1931, Earl Cross born 1934 (my dad of course!) and Luther Thomas Cross born 1938 and died at 6 months old. So there you have it. And this is all documented!!!! As far back as I have it the Cross line starts in Pennsylvania and Columbiana Co Ohio with John Cross. After he dies, Mary his widow remarried an Aaron Copas and they move to Gallia Co. Ohio by 1850 as they show up on the census records there. Then finally my great grandpa William Henry Cross moves from the Gallia Co. Ohio and Jackson co. Ohio area to what you and I know as Whiskey Hollow here in Pike Co Ohio sometime between 1880 and 1900. Uncle Ray told me that as a child he was always told that G-grandpa William Henry Cross moved here from Jackson Co. because he almost beat a guy to death over a tobacco crop. I don't know if this is so or not!!!! I have lots more on the grandmothers and great grandmother and cousins etc. It is just too much to send! If you get to come in soon let me know. I have books that I have put together on this and old-old pictures too. I will show them to you! In closing I will say this that as far back as I have traced this family, husbands and wives, I have found no Indians. Notify Administrator about this message?
