We are attempting to locate the burial place of Captain Samuel Sackett Marchand. Dr. Marchand was a Company Commander in the 14th PA Infantry, then an officer in the 136th PA Infantry. Wounded and Captured 31 December at Fredericksburg, he died in Libby Prison in 1863. He may have been buried in the Marchand farm family burying ground, "across the river from California". That may place the cemetery in Jefferson Township. There must be a number of small family cemeteries in Jefferson Township, possibly one used by the Marchand family. We would like to form a Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War Camp honoring Dr. Marchand. As such, we are most interested in locating his burial site. The Marchand family has deep ties to Fayette and Washington County, and we are hoping one of the Marchand family or an interested researcher can help us.
