Pvt John S. Rosenberger died of wounds received in action Nov. 1918. His father, an iron worker lived in Gainesville, Texas in 1918 but had returned to Philadelphia, Pa. after that and appears in the 1920 census as residing in Philadelphia. 1910 census indicates William (father) Sept 1880 29 Alice (mother) Jan 1882 27 John (son) May 1900 9 William Jr. 1903 7 May 1906 4 Samuel (grandf.)Jul 1858 50 Sarah Apr 1855 54 John does not appear in the ABM listings in Europe, so he may have been returned to where ever his family is interred, possibly near Philadelphia. The Gainesville Daily Register carried a paragraph Nov.21, 1918 noting the death due to wounds and listed the father as a iron worker in Gainesville. Typically the repatriation would have occured in 1921, so the census seems to indicate the family was already back in Pennsylvania. John S. Rosenberger is listed as a Cooke County loss on a plaque on the Cooke County courthouse in Gainesville, Texas, but he was only there briefly. Any help is apprciated in locating him. sn Notify Administrator about this message?
