Looking for Cassandra and Lydia of Maryland and Pennsylvania and their descendants. In 1797 Cassandra, aka Cass, and Lydia, aka Liddy, were represented by the Pennsylvania Abolition Society in a lawsuit – Pennsylvania vs. Abriella Blackmore 1790. The argument was that when Samuel Blackmore, husband of Abriella, brought Cass and Liddy into the state as Slaves they should have been freed immediately. Instead they were registered as slaves for life. The case was originally filed in 1790 against Abriella Blackmore, widow of Samuel but it appears that they spent an additional 7 years in bondage until the court freed them after determining that Samuel Blackmore brought them into Pennsylvania from Maryland after the March 1, 1780 cut off. When he registered his Slaves in Washington County in 1782, Cass was age 22 and Liddy age 20. Cassandra aka Cass was born abt 1760 possibly in Maryland where she was a slave of Samuel Blackmore Lydia aka Liddy was born abt 1762 possibly in Maryland where she was a Slave of Samuel Blackmore Other possible family members listed in 1782 on the Slave register Clar age 45, Harry age 23, Delela age 27, Lettia age 19, Cate age 18 More information can be found at http://www.hsp.org/default.aspx?id=1172 Notify Administrator about this message?
