We are looking for any lineal male descendants of Joseph Hartmann (ca. 1714-1763) to be included in a DNA test.
Joseph arrived in Philadelphia on the ship St. Andrew in 1743 and by 1753 was living in Frederick county, Maryland where he died in 1763. It is known that he had at least one son, Joseph (ca. 1740-1800) and it is suspected that many of the other Hartmanns of Colonial Frederick county, Maryland are sons as well. This also likely included Capt. Henrich (Henry) Hartmann of the Frederick county, Maryland “Flying Camp” during the Revolutionary War. Other possible sons of the immigrant may have been Frederick and Michael who also served in the German Regiment from Frederick county, Maryland.
Recently two male descendants of Elder Anthony Hardman (ca. 1730-1803) of the German Baptist church and of Frederick county, Maryland; Washington county, Pennsylvania and Shelby county, Kentucky were conclusively matched using DNA testing. A male descendant of Georg Hartman, a resident of Frederick county, Maryland in 1751, was also tested confirming that Georg and Anthony Hartman/Hardman were either brothers, father and son or cousins. Each of the DNA tests matched using the 43 strand test offered at Ancestry.Com in all but one instance.
Please contact this writer if you are a lineal male descendant of the Joseph Hartmann who died in Frederick county, Maryland in 1763 or 1764 and would be interested in participating in a DNA test.
