Hey cousins! As you get further back on your trees I might be able to help. I have been able to link over 90% of the PABÓN surnamed individuals in the towns I placed in subject matter IF the families were there in place before the 1880's. I have not been able to link them to the San Juan, Caguas, Río Piedras or western PABÓN yet but to each other, most deft!! How? As you can see from my surnames I descend from them. I go back to a Feliciano Pabón and a María Monserrate Ortíz from the XVIIIth cent. Let me telescope 22 years of research in orderly fashion although the reality is that it was touch and go most of the time and that I found the info and then had to prove it by gettin many, many certificates (sources!) from parishes. Of course I found most of this out after going backwards from myself and my mother and then, when I couldn't get any further back coming back down through the collateral lines:

In 1756 a Feliciano Pabón and a María Figueroa baptized their child Marsela in Utuado, the entry stated they were from Thoa (TOA BAJA - oldest of the two). In 1758 he appears again now with a María Monserrate baptizing son Juan. Again it states "de la rivera del Thoa". This material is in the Parish Extracts of Father Fernando Picó, so you can check out the correctness of the statement. The LDS have microfilmed the stuff, so it is freely accessed - check the Utuado baptism films.

I checked out confirmation book from 18th cent Toa Baja (not microfilmed but in Archdiocesan Archive in San Juan) and he appears there several times with María Monserrate (twice her surname is given: ORTÍZ) at the Confirmations of Juan, Juan and Lorenzo and possibly a daughter named Bárbara.

They baptized three daughters in Toa Alta, who appear to have died as children.

They then disappear but their children begin baptizing their own children in Toa Alta, Corozal, Vega Baja and Vega Alta during last part of XVIII and first decade of XIX centuries. These in turn baptize their own children and grandchildren in VB, VA, Ciales, Corozal, Morovis, Orocovis, Utuado, Jayuya, Barceloneta, Florida. I was lucky enough to then find María Monserrate's death cert in Vega Baja as well as Lorenzo's and his wife's, and those of most of her children's and many baptism, marriage and death certs. of her grand and her great grandchildren. There is NO doubt, because of the souce material, that these people were family.

I am doing a book on the Pabón but generally stopped looking aroung the 1880's because it got out of hand. The book already has over 750 footnotes, including the links to the the Laureano and Figueroa families which heavily intermarried with each other and the PABÓN.

The Vega Alta bunch generally stem from Gregorio Pabón (two marriages, loads of kids), many of the Pantoja lines intermarried with Pabón even since end of XVIIIth when Gregorio's sister Simona who married Pedro Agustín Pantojas shows up in oldest book - so marriages back and forth was common.

The Vega Baja bunch stem out of my ancestor Marcelino but as there were several first cousin marriages some people can claim two or three of Feliciano and Monserrate's children as direct ancestors.

There appear to be at least 13 children in all and possibly that Bárbara as she also lived in Vega Baja.

When and if you get back in time (past 1880) you might want to contact me about your line so we can exchange some info. In a couple of weeks I should have a preliminary tree up on my site - I will make announcement when it is ready. Sorry, cannot put up sources, too many and takes up too much space, geocities is already after me for all the traffic on the de Rivera family and turns off my site (when it gets to 5 gig of download) for a couple of days. I hope to have my book out by years end. Good genealogy to all!
