Jeffery: From your information I figured out that your Leander Pace was from Port Huron, St. Clair County, Michigan. This is a town on the west side of St. Clair River, just across the river from the province of Ontario. I then checked Ancestry.com census records to see if there were any Paces in this area in the 1800's. This is what I found: The only Pace in St. Clair Co. on the 1860 census was located in Port Huron, Ward 4. Page 203 of the census shows: Pace, Fred age 53 Carpenter, b. NJ. Pace, Penelope 42 CAN Pace, Samuel 25 CAN Pace, Elizabeth 24 CAN Pace, William 23 CAN Pace, Emma 22 MI Pace, Mary 20 MI Pace, Sarah 18 CAN Pace, Clarissa 16 CAN Pace, Jacob 12 CAN Pace, Daniel 10 CAN Pace, John 8 WI or MI Pace, Clarinda 6 CAN Pace, Sodima 4 CAN Pace, Soretta 5/12 MI Pace, Martha 3 CAN Pace, Cora 5/12 CAN The last two children are probably Fred's grandchildren, probably children of Samuel, Elizabeth or William. From this info it appears that Fred probably married Penelope in Canada, probably about 1835. The family apparently moved back and forth between Port Huron and Ontario a lot. My guess is that your Leander was a grandson of Fred, and was perhaps a son of Jacob, Daniel or John. The only other Pace I found in St. Clair Co was David Pace who is on the 1850 census. I was not able to find him on this very large census - all I could determine is that he was not in Port Huron. My suggestion is to try to find out where your Leander was in 1880 (if he was born yet) and 1900. That way you can find him on a census record. Also what happened to Fred Pace and his very large family after 1860? Were they still in Michigan or did they settle in Ontario. They must have many descendants somewhere. Gordon W. Pace
