Hi there, I have been trying to sort out my Hudson Pace for several years. Either there was more then one Hudson Pace or mine was married multiple times in a relatively short period of time. My Hudson is the son of Elisha Pace & Martha "Patsy" Johnson and was b: abt. 1822. While I also list a 1849 marriage for him with Mary King in Flavanna Co., Virginia, there was also a married Hudson Pace listed in the 1840 Fredericksville Parish census for Albemarle Co. Virginia: ======================== 1 male bet. 20-30Ys; 1 female bet. 20-30Ys - no children listed. NOTE: Employed in manufacturing and trade. ======================== This may have been another Hudson Pace or mine.... since census ages are so often incorrect. Of course, this brings us to the 1850 Sep 8 - 57th Dist. census for Roanoke Co., Virginia. There I found my Hudson Pace (for sure) living with his sister Martha (Pace) Chandler's family: ======================== Samuel Chandler age 30, b. VA, Occ: Miller; Martha age 28, b. VA; William J. age 6, b. VA; John N. or W. age 4, b. VA; Mary E. age 7Ms, b. VA; Robert age 20, b. VA; and Hudson Pace age 35, b. VA, Occ: Cooper. ======================== This raises the question: If it was my Hudson Pace who married Mary King in May of 1849...what became of her by Sep. of 1850? Had she died? Or was she still alive and if so...where was she at while Hudson was living with his sister that fall?? ======================== Hudson apparently married a Martha Short in the mid-1850s. I haven't confirmed their marriage date yet. ======================== They are found in the 1870 Sep 30 - Chamblissburg Twp. census for Bedford Co., Virginia - ======================== Hudson Pace age 58, b. VA, Occ: farmer; Martha ge 46, b. VA; Sarah E. age 13, b. VA; Willie M. age 11, b. VA; and George Rush age 22, b. VA, Occ: farmer. ======================== As well as the 1880 Jun 12/14 - Chamblissburg Twp. census for Bedford Co., Virginia - ======================== Hudson Pace age 63, b. VA, Occ: farmer; Martha age 59, b. VA; Abram Howell age 25 (son-in-law), b. VA, Occ: carpenter; Willie M. age 20 (dau), b. VA; and Gordon E. age 7Ms, b. Oct, VA. ======================== Hudson apparently died between 1880 & 1900. In the 1900 Jun 29 census for- Amsterdam Dist., Botetourt Co., Virginia - I find his widow Martha living with their only child; daughter Willie & her family: Martha Pace age 75, b. 1825, VA, widow, 1 child, 1 living. ========================= As for "William H. Pace". I list my Hudson Pace b: abt.1822 with both a grandfather named: William Henry Pace b: 1743(Goochland Co. VA) d: 1815 (Scott Co. VA) m: Mary(Wineinger?) Winegar AND a brother named: William Henry Pace b: 1808 (Louisa Co.VA) d: 1890 (Harrison Co. IA) m: Sarah Nancy (Ann?) Ferguson -------------------------- Bye for now, Kathleen Notify Administrator about this message?
