Rebecca: Bruce Howard's new Pace book presents a much different picture of these earliest Paces than that generally accepted. His evidence and documentation seem to support most of his conclusions. First, Richard Pace married Mary Baker, not Mary Knowles - there appears to be no evidence for Knowles from what I have seen. The son of Richard who married Elizabeth Lowe was James Pace b 1670. They were married abt. 1690. There appears to be no record of a Pace marrying Sarah Eppes. Bruce mentions Sarah as the wife of William Eppes, living next to the above James. James and Elizabeth had 4 children: Richard m. Sarah Woodliefe, George m. Sarah, James m. unknown, and Solomon m. Honor. They were probably born from 1690 to abt 1700. They did not have a son named John. Another son of Richard Pace and Mary Baker was John Pace, Sr. b 1668 m. Elizabeth (surname unknown). They were parents of John Pace, Jr. b 1691 Bertie Co, m. Sarah Gray. Their children are apparently unknown. As to Burrell Pope Pace, Bruce refers to him as Burwell Pace (no middle name) b. 1758 m. Lydia Woodruff. He says his parents were John Pace b abt 1725 m. Sarah Burge (not Sarah Pope as generally believed) Bruce does not mention Sarah Pope. This John Pace is a son of Richard Pace and Sarah Woodliefe mentioned above. I am skeptical about the Burwell Pace interpretation as I think this Burwell or Burrell named a son Burrell and I am not sure if there is any evidence for Sarah Pope as a spouse of a Pace. Gordon W.
