Leonardo,

I read your posting and some of what you wrote is incorrect. I would like to correct one particular error. You mention that one of the first governors of the State of California was "Rufulio" Pacheco. Well, your partially right. In fact, his real name was Romualdo Pacheco and he was the last Mexican Governor of the State of California. He served one partial term in 1875. You're right when you say the Pacheco's have a long proud lineage. In Spain's medieval period they served with two of the most prestigious knightly orders-Alcantara and Calatrava. Do you any history about these orders? With more recent history, during the Viceroyalty period of Nueva Espana in Mexico there were three Viceroys with the Pacheco surname. What's very interesting is among these Pacheco's many were hidden Jews called Conversos. I hope that what I have just written helps you. If you have any more questions regarding the history of our surname e-mail me and I'll try and answer them.
