"Donald Jack Pack, 60, was born Feb. 12, 1942, in Kenova, West Virginia, to Donald Garrett and Lena Willis Pack. He came to Long Beach, California, as an infant. He was a third generation ironworker and member of the same local union, International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcement Ironworkers Local Union 433 (Los Angeles) as his grandfather, Emery Howard Pack, and father, Donald. He spent most of 41 years at Vandenberg Air Force Base working on numerous projects including the MOL and Space Shuttle programs. Many buildings in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Lompoc were built with Jack's help, including the Lompoc Record.
He married his high school sweetheart in 1962. An avid golfer, over the years Jack had four holes in one at the Vandenberg Air Force Base Golf Course. His passion was fishing on the ocean. There were countless fishing trips with his cousins and friends. He was an expert pole wrapper - he also made large anchors for party fishing boats. He loved to garden and always grew vegetables in his backyard. Before his death, Jack put in a rose garden. He also got a lot of joy feeding and watching the hummingbirds.
Jack passed away Saturday, August 3, 2002, at UCLA Medical Center, where he had undergone a lung transplant last year. Survivors include his wife and 4 children, 8 grandchildren, his mother and sister, numerous nieces and nephews, all who miss him very much. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald Pack."
Jack was 5th great grandson of the Revolutionary War soldier buried in Louisa, Kentucky, George Pack (b@ 1755 d. April 3, 1825).
