Charles Presley (1894) > David F (1849) > Albert (1816)
Posted by: Ted Pack (ID *****6680) Date: October 09, 2007 at 16:37:14
  of 1637

This traces five generations of Packs:

Edna Mae Pack, b. 16 Nov 1918 in Chattanooga, Hamilton, Tennesse;
Charley Preston Pack, b. July 22 1893 in Ringgold [Catoosa] Georgia;
David F. Pack, b. June 1849 in Georgia,
Albert Pack, b. 1816 in Tennessee
Jeremiah Pack, b. 1787 (+/- some) in North Carolina

[A good dozen people have Albert as one of Jeremiah's sons on RWWC; they may have all copied the same fact, and it may have been wrong. Albert did name one of his sons Jeremiah, and his biorth states look about right,]

It started as a post on the Ancestry PACK board
http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.pack/mb.ashx

7 Oct 2007, subj. "Pack/Dolly" from "tauntonclan"

It continues on a post there from me titled

Charles Presley (1894) > David F (1849) > Albert (1816) > Jerimiah !787

[sic] the "!787" should have been "1787", of course.

I wrote some questions to Ms. Taunton after her first post, and again after I found Edna Mae, Charley's daughter, living with her grandparents in the 1930 census.

Ms. Taunton wrote:

From the little bit I know: Charlie Presley Pack married Dorothy Dolly. They had a child named Edna Mae Pack in Chattanooga, Tennesse on 16 Nov 1918. Edna ended up in Flint Michigan and married Ferndale "Smitty" Clifton Smith. He died in 1968 and she in 1982.

and

I talked to my mother-in-law and she said Dorothy did die and Charlie moved to Michigan and married a Leah.

Everything from here down is in reverse chronological order. Some of it won't make sense until you read a later entry.

["Sakurai" is almost sure to be a misprint; the chance of a Japanese man marrying a white woman in Michigan in the 1920's is small. There are 71 people named "Sakurai" in the 1920 census, all but three of them born in California, Japan or Hawaii. The other three are from Italy, Hungary and Prussia.]

[Note "Garvis" has the same birth year, birth states and middle initial as "David" in 1900. Not all enumerators had a fine round hand.]

Right next door, probably related somehow:

It looks like Albert died in Catoosa County between 1860 and 1870. Margaret is widowed for sure in 1880.

Everyone hid behind their initials in 1860, but this is them:

I'd be wiling to bet "M M" was Margaret Malissa or Malissa Margaret. Jeremiah is revealed to be Jerry and David's brother, probably.
