Finding the family of the younger Elijah has been a challenge. I can find few birth or marriage records for this family, but have been able to determine a great deal from death and gravestone records.

Elijah married 1st, by about 1824, Susan S. Baker, born about 1820, daughter of John and Abigail Baker. Her Coweeset Cemetery gravestone was abstracted as:

PACKARD ... Susan S., w. Elijah, d. John Baker and Abigail, Apr. 7, 1842, a. 40, in Worcester. G.R.5.
G.R.5. - gravestone record, Coweeset Cemetery, Pearl Street [Brockton VR 352].

Her death record at Worcester [MA VR 1:155] confirms her date of, place of, and age at death. It confirms her middle initial, and gives her cause of death as "childbed."

Elijah married 2nd, 20-Jul-1850 at Springfield, Lucy Rice, both resident in Springfield. Elijah was 53, a machinist, born at Bridgewater, son of Elijah Packard, and it was his second marriage. Lucy was 24, born at Princeton, daughter of Samuel Rice, and it was her first marriage. [MA VR 45:250].

The age at marriage for Lucy is presumably an error for 34, as she was born 25-Jun-1814 at Princeton, daughter of Samuel and Azubah Rice [Princeton VR 57].

Elijah died 29-Mar-1871 at Worcester of pneumonia, married, age 73 y. 9 m., his occupation machinist. The space for his father's name is blank, and his mother's name given as Susan. The deceased and both parents are shown as born in MA [MA VR 240:334].

Lucy died in 1883 at Worcester [MA VR 348:496]. Unfortunately the images of the Worcester death registers for that year are among those missing online. Fortunately her death record is also found in the Princeton death registers for that year (even though that line was struck out), and that image is available. The Princeton record shows she died in Worcester May-1883, a widow, age 68 y. 11 m. 4 d., daughter of Samuel Rice and born at Princeton. [MA VR 348:455]. Although the day of her death is not given in the Princeton record, the age is given to the day, so presumably she died 29-May-1883.

I have found three children for Elijah and Sarah, but none for Elijah and Lucy.

1) George F. Packard, born about 1825, died 04-Apr-1843 at Worcester, age 18 [Worcester VR 503]. His Coweeset Cemetery gravestone was abstracted as:

PACKARD ... George F., s. Elijah and Susan S., Apr. 4, 1843, a. 18, in Worcester. G.R.5.
G.R.5. - gravestone record, Coweeset Cemetery, Pearl Street [Brockton VR 348].

2) Charles Henry Packard, born about Dec-1828, died 18-Apr-1836. His Coweeset Cemetery gravestone was abstracted as:

PACKARD ... Charles Henry, s. Elijah and Susan, Apr. 18, 1836[?], a. 7 y. 4 m. G.R.5.
G.R.5. - gravestone record, Coweeset Cemetery, Pearl Street [Brockton VR 347].

3) Susan M. Packard, born about 15-Dec-1831 at Boston (per death record), died 08-Oct-1847 at Springfield of consumption, age 15 y. 7 m. 23 d., born at Boston, daughter of Elijah and Susan Packard [MA VR 32:160]. Her Coweeset Cemetery gravestone was abstracted as:

PACKARD ... Susan M., d. Elijah and Susan, Oct. 8, 1847, a. 16. G.R.5.
G.R.5. - gravestone record, Coweeset Cemetery, Pearl Street [Brockton VR 352].

Thus it would seem that Elijah was living in Boston in 1831, removed to Worcester before 07-Apr-1842, removed to Springfield between 04-Apr-1843 and 08-Oct-1847, and removed again to Worcester after 20-Jul-1850.
