Packard's Progress is a newsletter which was published from 1987 to 1998 by 4 successive editors who were members of the ad hoc national Packard and Allied Families Assoc. formed at the instigation of the first editor, Jeri Packard Schlerf. I was the last editor. At the last reunion of PAFA, at Plymouth, Mass., in August 2000, I resigned as editor. Several members planned to continue publication of the newsletter, but illness and other commitments have prevented them from doing so. I know of no current plans to revive the newsletter or to have another reunion.
Back issues were photocopied twice while I was editor and sold to new members. There is no stock of reprints and I know of no plans to copy more. There were 39 issues consisting of about 968 pages, 8 1/2 by 11 inches. Most of these issues are not indexed. The newsletters contain contributions from many members and others consisting of articles on the lives of many Packards, Family Record sheets, obituaries, Allied FamiliesŐ A through O female surnames, news of members, Keeper Kards, reports of Packard data from various sources, and reunion news. The accuracy of the genealogical data is as variable as the sources. The data are useful as clues for further research.
The newsletter was distributed to members and to the Library of Congress (ISSN 0892-0257), the Family History Library at Salt Lake City (LDS 929.27305), the New England Historic Genealogical Society (Boston, Mass.), the Old Bridgewater Historical Society (W. Bridgewater, Mass.), and the Wisconsin State Historical Society (Madison WI).
