Dave

Have you managed to progress your family back beyond Joseph Packer of Frampton on Severn? Do you have any links to / information about Packers in nearby Arlingham, Glos, in the early 1600s?

I'm researching my MERRY family in Arlingham, Gloucestershire, and am keen to find out more about the children of Walter MERRY and Elizabeth PACKER who married in Arlingham in 1601. I know that there WERE children as the 1655 will of Walter's nephew Thomas refers to 'surviving children of my father's brothers John and Walter'. I have no further records about John at all. For Walter I have only the following:
- 1601 his marriage to Elizabeth Packer
- 1608 possibly the Walter Merry, weaver, at Halmore, near Slimbridge, mentioned in 'Men and Armour' muster book
- 1613 possibly dies before this, as an Elizabeth Merry, widow, buries a daughter Mary in Arlingham.

I don't have a baptism date/place/parents for 'my' Elizabeth Packer.
The only other Packers that I've found [from the IGI] in Arlingham are:
1592 Robert Packer marries Isard Rowles
1602 Robert Packer marries Joan Downe
1633 Jone Packer marries Richard Frier

Also, from the online wills index of the Gloucestershire Record Office: http://www.gloscc.gov.uk/pubserv/gcc/corpserv/archives/genealogy.htm
1614 Will of William Packer of Arlingham - I'll be following this up as soon as I can, hoping that it might mention Elizabeth Merry and family.

If you ever come across any references to MERRY in your researches, please let me know.

I usually manage to get to the Gloucestershire Record Office about once a year (next trip probably in the Autumn) so if you want me to look up something for the next stage of your research, please let me know.

Best wishes
Sonia
