In the Essex, Herts, Kent, Middlesex, Surrey, and Sussex Counties Post Office Directory, c. 1851 • Trades' Directory we find the following basket makers: E Packer, Cranbourne Alley Margate; J Packer, High St, Whitstable, Canterbury; J Packer Junior, Sittingbourn; JF Packer St Dunstans street, Canterbury; S.Packer High St, Milton, Sittingbourn; W Packer, The Parade, Faversham.
My GGGGGrandfather was JOHN PACKER born Sandwich, Kent c.1805. Basketmaker. 1st marriage to ELIZABETH LEWIS, 2nd marriage to SARAH ?.
His son was MATTHEW PACKER born London, Middlesex c.1831 Basketmaker turned costermonger. 1st wife ANN PURDY, 2nd wife ROSE ANN WALLIS.
His son was THOMAS JOHN PACKER born Spitalfields 1853. Marble polisher. Married to Margaret O' Shaughnessy.
