hello Paul and others interested,
I'm a direct descendant of Thomas Sargent and Alice Packham.The Sargent book was launched in 1979 and does have an enormous volume of info in it. However not much back beyond Thomas and Alice parents. Has anyone done any seaching? At one time my mother was in England and visited Northiam and transcribed some births etc (in the days when it was very accessible - if you knew what you were looking for ? early 1980s)However it doesn't solve the mystery very clearly.
My maternal grandmother was a Sargent born in SA.
