I too have a Carabine/Carbine from Mayo but this seems not to be her origin. My gg Grandmother was Mary Carabine who married Patrick McGowan. Their son, Patrick was born 1849 at BallyHowley - Carrowmor-Moy.

It is my understanding that the name in Cambro/anglo-Norman. This being the case it is French. Perhaps the true spelling is Corbin?

Still looking. I am not finding many. My information from the heritage society also points up one Catherine Carbine. I find no other records for Mary and Patrick McGowan.
