SUBJ: PADDEN, MacFADYEN, gallowglass, Clan MacLEAN/GILLEAN

On the following website:

http://www.araltas.com/features/mcauley/index.html

it says that MacPhaidín (MacFadden) was a "gallowglass" "galloglas" "galloglaich" family. PEDEN, PADIEN, PADIAN, PADDEN, PADYEN, PADEN, PADIN, PADDON, PADIN, SPADDEN are all variations of MacFadden, and were associated with (sept of) Clan MacLEAN/GILLEAN in Scotland. If anyone finds other references to MacPhaidín (MacFadden) being gallowglasses, DO let me know!

See http://www.gillean.com/Roots/septs/mcfadyen.htm

{Now that I think about it, I wonder if the surname GILL is a variant of GILLEAN.}

See my reinteration at:

http://www.lighthousewoods.com/genealogy/carlos/carlos_macauley_coll.html

and my webpage about gallowglasses on:

http://www.lighthousewoods.com/genealogy/carlos/carlos_gallowglass.html

CARLOS' and PADIANs in Ireland were fairly close to each other, not necessarily the farm next door, but certainly within their own townland and neighboring townlands. I have found CARLOS' and PADIANs marrying each other, and upon emigrating to the US, showing up in late 18th-century censuses within the same family. Another associated name was GILL.
