Good to hear that you are interested in genealogy while in High School.

In all probability you would be descended from the Pedens that settled in South Carolina in 1772. John Peden and Margaret McDill arrived in Charleston from Co. Antrim, Ireland with their 10 children and a number of grandchildren on the ship James and Mary. They and their children received land grants from the Colonial British officials in the Upcountry of SC. Nine of their ten children had large families and in the early 1800's many of the second and third generations began moving to new lands opening up West from SC. Many went to GA, AL, MS, TN, and elsewhere. Many of these descendants utilize the PADEN spelling of the name. Today descendants are found all over the US.

I have a good bit of information on some of these lines and would be glad to help you. You can e-mail me directly at and I will try to see if I can figure out how your line fits in. Please give me information on the furthest back your line goes and relevant names and dates of your earliest Padens.

Hope I can help.
