some of you that know how to do these kids of over seas research and you are a Padfield well maybe you can help me. I have our family legends and I would like to investigate it further but have not a clue just how too go about it.
OK we know that the Padfields were Quaker, well and I was told 7 brothers came here Before the mayflower. or on it ( I don't remember exactly what was said about the mayflower but it was referenced as a point of time) ok well also family legends said that the name ransom came down the family .
so on a hunch a few years back I called a few ransoms in a phone book and one of them told me this story, it went something like this .
that the name ransoms came from when either one of the scandinavian countries or england became catholic and either england or this scandanavian country (I think it was denmark or sweden maybe) bought back the freedom of the whole church called green gate I think, well maybe I think and they moved to that country .
since I know that our padfields were quaker if anyone knows if this is part of the quakers history and if they were part of the green gate church (or a church named something like that ) that was ransomed in some way from some country that made a law for everyone to be catholic. so if this is the case then is this story why the name Ransom is so important in my line of the Padfields.
so some or alot of this is speculation from family legends and a little research talking to folks with the surname ransom. and I was hoping some researchers could help me see if any of it is even possible. where do you start with over seas things? Ps I haven't had any reason to do over seas research because most of the rest of me is native american , except this side. anyway renee
