Rod and Sue,

Thanks for your reply to my post on GenForum! It sounds like a good possibility that our ancestors are related.

Let me say more about my connection to the Padfields, then I'd welcome any info you have to share.

I'm looking for information on my great-grandfather, Thomas Edward PADFIELD. Here's what I know about him:

(much of this information came from his certificate of death, some from his son's social security application)

* Thomas Edward Padfield was born 5 May 1860 in Bath, England

* His certificate of death said he lived in this country 68 years - since he died at age 80, that would mean he came to America at age 12.

* His parents are listed as "unknown" on his certificate of death - but lists both as being born in England. the informant on this certificate was his daughter (my grandmother). I wonder - if my grandmother didn't know the names of her grandparents, could that mean her father didn't know their names either? Could he have been given up for adoption (from a large family that couldn't afford to keep him, or his parents may have died?)

* He first married Louisa WEBER and together they had a son, James, born 31 Oct 1882 in Detroit, MI

* He second married Helena HIGGINS, born 1871, died 1931 in Detroit, MI

* Together they had a daughter, Margaret Mary PADFIELD, born 16 Jul 1911 in Detroit, MI and died 24 Oct 1940 in Evansville, IN

I have photos of Thomas a year or 2 before his death. My father has very fond memories of his grandfather, (for whom my father was named). Thomas was a very short man - under 5 feet. He worked as a steamfitter.

Hope I haven't given you too much information - but I'm hoping something will ring a bell or connect with your information to make our connection clearer.

FYI - I'm slowly but surely posting all my family tree info on a Web site. You might find it helpful: www.geocities.com/lebradley77

Thanks again for your response. You can reach me outside of GenForum at lebradley77@yahoo.com. I'll look forward to hearing more from you!

Regards,
Leah
