HI Cidy I think I finally found my family on a census.
it isn't a lot of help but maybe you will recognize something.
I believe these to be my family.
J.S Padfield M. w. 34 IL day labor. - -
E. Padfield wife 32 IL houskeeper IL TN.
J.R. son 12 IL IL IL
IE dau 8 MO. IL IL

since a william and a James is a R born in KY and JS doesn't know where his dad is born so it must not have been in IL where he was born. But I don't know his name what I do know is
J.R is Jessie Ransom Padfield ( died a farmer in AZ)
I.E is Ida ( was a school Principle in San fransico)
we know that Jessie's dad traveled to LA CA In a wagon . and dressed poor, drove an old wagon etc . but had a lot of gold in his bags of wheat. when he got to LA he built Houses for a living. I don't know if he stopped along the way there or not. but Jessie moved out too AZ after a few marriages went south I guess ( he was married like 4 times). I don't have anything that says If Jessie was really a james or not, but they called him Jessie.
Jessie ransom's son Gordon Arthur Padfield was my grandfather.
anyway do you know if YOur R in this Line stands for Ransom we might have a match as believe My grandfather told me that the name Ransom was a name that went way back in the family. anyway renee
