PAGEL, Walter Carl, MN
Grandfather was Walter Carl (W.C.) Hermann Pagel. He was not fond of the Middle name (Hermann) so he signed his name W.C. Many mistook his name for William, and might have called him Bill.
His father (my GGF) was a farmer, GGF was a child when he immigrated from Germany. I'm told that many Pagel's had left Germany together in the 1800's to keep the coming of age males out of the German Military (had forged papers as well). Apparently, the boat left the port with the Military close behind, and a brief confrontation may have occured at sea. I don't know the name of the boat, the place it put in in USA, nor do I know Walt's father's name.
Walt spent much of his life in North Dakota. Minot was one place he settled. I'm told that thePagel's on that boat settled mainly in MN, ND, WI, etc...thanks,
