During a recent Salt Lake City visit to research my husband's family, we discovered your postings on the Pagel family. My husband Luther, who grew up in Wolsey, South Dakota, knew his maternal grandmother Caroline Stegeman (she used one n in the spelling). She was born in Minnesota of the August Stegemann/Caroline Fredericke Pagel parentage--the Frederike (9-19-1841) you referenced We are very much interested in information and documentation resources for both the Stegemann and Pagel families.
As members of the Sarasota (FL) German Genealogical Society, we learned about "Old Lutherans" and believe that the Stegemann and Pagel families were members of Holy Ghost Lutheran Church in Bergholz, Niagara County, New York, and founding members of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Afton, Washington County, Minnesota. Although Luther knew his Stegeman/Fischer grandmother, he was not aware of the Pagel name in his hometown. Any assistance you can give us we will sincerely appreciate.
