Moses LeCompte was the son of Antoine Le Compte. Antoiner was a native of Picorde, France; was a protestant & was driven out of France & his estate confiscated by the Roman clergy. He fled to England & took up arms against the King of France joining the British Army for 11 years. "When the war was over his fame was so great, and for his valour, the King had him knighted and the title of "Monsieur" bestowed upon him together with a coat of arms which is now in the Tower of London. While in London he met a french lady, Esther Doatlon, and married her She was also a French protestant from Normandy. He took to shipping & came to the Chesapeake Bay & settled on the Potomac in 1654. He received the original land grant of 'land Antoine le Compte', 800 acres called "St. Anthony", in 1658. He migrated from the Potomac to the Choptank River in 1656 to 'LeCompte's creek'.
