Thank you for the info. I am interested in the Hodge families because two different times they became the gardians and raised Painter children. I am curious as to why that happened. As we don't know the name of JPs 1754 first wife I check every surname for a clue. I was hoping that the Hodge name would help. The DAR ladies are helping with the research and we need any documents noting the relationship of JOHN PAINTER 1754 with any of his sibblings as well as the children of his first wife. We have him in the 1790, 1800, 1810 1820, 1830 and 1840 census but we need land records, newspaper accounts etc which would tie him to his decendents. I have a newspaper article which mentions the "Painter girls who married the Thaxton and Davidson men" but it doesnt mention their father or mother. This was in the 1830s. Also we're still working on the relationship of the two Painter families who lived in Greene Co., Illinois. JOHN PAINTER 1754 NC family lived there until 1840s and the John Painter family of VA came about 1840 and still live in the area. My family returned to the Green Co. area about 1960 and another of JP's grandsons families returned to Greene Co. and Jersey co., IL.in 1880s. John Painter 1848, ggrandson of JP 1754 is burried in Jersey Co., IL. Both of these families moved up to Christian co., IL. What an interesting mystery?Take care Margie
