Hello Andrew,

We are cousins! My great-grandfather was Matti Pakkala also. The family started using the Nisula name when they moved to Toholampi and started working on the Nisula farm. In Veteli, Matti's father was the owner of the Pakkala farm but it was lost during the 1860's due to the Typhoid epidemic and famine. The farmhouse is still standing today and is owned by descendents of Matti's brother Antti.

It also seems that Matti used the name Pakkala and Nisula interchangably. In the cemetary records, he is listed as Matti Pakkala but on the gravestone, his name is listed as Matti Nisula.

By the way, I am the grandson of Leena's brother, Juho Heikki (John Henry).
