My Grandfather was Stephen John Palahniuk. He was Ukrainian, however he is listed as born in Austra on January 6th 1873. The family came to the U.S. between 1905 and 1910 I think. They ended up in Belfield, North Dakota. Many of my relatives are in the Eugene, Oregon area. My father and his siblings changed the spelling to Palanuk.
