Hi Cyndy,

Daniel Palcic and I have been working together ´since 1999 to find descendants of all Palcic families who immigrated from Croatia or Slovenia. While there were a lot of immigrants from the Loz Valley, the majority came from Croatia, and the name is still prevalent in both places.

I haven't done any DNA research to find ancestors yet. Why were you surprised about the R1b haplogroup? It seems that at least part of that group comes from eastern Europe.

I just visited Daniel last month, and we are trying to keep the project going, partly through this board. We suspect that most, if not all, the families in the Loz valley area are related, though we have not traced our lines back far enough to connect the branches we have.

I know that my great-grandfather and Daniel's grandfather were both born in Vrhnika pri Lozu, and presumably next door to each other, if the house numbers in the Status Animarum are correct(!). So far, though, we probably need to track back one or two generations more before we find a connection.

My data indicates that your husband's grandfather Anton was born in Stari Trg, which is the parish town for the valley where the church books are. Anton's brother Rudolf was born in Pudob (next to Vrhnika pri Lozu) and I don't have a birthplace for Yos (Josip?), though we have his birth date.

Welcome to the board and please keep in touch. Maybe you and I can talk someday as well.
