Hi David:

Welcome to the Palcic page.

Now I guess I have a name to go along with the e-mail address.

It looks like Vrhnika was a popular place of origin back in those days. There are actually two Vrhnikas; the first, Vrhnika, about 12 miles SW of Ljubljana, had a population of about 7,000, according to the 1991 census. The second, Vrhnika pri Loz*u, about 25 miles South of Ljubljana, had a population of about 150. I'm told that those who lived/live in Vrhnika pri Loz*u referred/refer to it simply as Vrhnika, which can cause some confusion.

I'm also looking for an Iowa connection. My grandfather, Ernest Palcic, supposedly had an older cousin who sent him money for ship passage, and sponsored him when he arrived in the U.S. This cousin, first name unknown, later moved to Iowa.

Daniel
