We don't know anything about Daniel, beyond the biography in the original post. However, I do suspect that there might be a link. We know Gilbert went to Canada but we don't know why.

I know that several Baldwin's were suspected of being Loyalists in Dutchess county. And it appears that some changed their name to Balding, (at least an Isaac Baldwin did), while others didn't.
