I have this Abigail Palfrey born 1 July 1706 in Boston. The date of 23 Dec 1703 was the marriage of her parents, William Palfrey and Abigail Briscoe. If she was christened, there is no record of it in any Boston church.
She married Benjamin on 9 Jan 1727/8. *Jestry* is the way his name appears in the printed version of the civil records of Boston, but the record of New South Church gives her husband's name as *Jeffry*. He is apparently the "Benjamen Son of Arthur Jeffry and Mary his Wife" who was born 9 Aug 1702 in Boston.
It is difficult to know whether "Abigail daugr of Widow Abigail Jeffry," baptized at the New South Church on 21 Jan 1732/3, was child of this couple. Abigail, daughter of Henry and Abigail Jeffrey, was born earlier that day, however, so such a placement cannot be regarded as highly likely even though the birth record gives no evidence that Henry was dead. In any case, Benjamin must have died by 23 Sep 1736. when Abigail "Jeffers" married John Corney. To the baptismal record of their first child is appended: "He in Cov[enan]t at Gloucester."
There is in fact a Corney family associated with that Massachusetts town, and Abigail's second husband is most likely the John "Curney" who was born there on 9 Dec 1698. Apparently he brought his family back with him. It is noted on Gloucester town records that John and Abigail Corney had a daughter Abigail born in Boston, among other issue. The published vital records of Gloucester do not give a date of death for John or Abigail.
Her father, William Palfrey, sailmaker, died at Boston on 23 Apr 1766. He left a will, dated 1 Apr 1766 and proved 2 May 1766, which names Abigail Corney among his daughters. Because the will also specified the legacies of children of deceased daughters, we can be reasonably certain that Abigail was alive at the time William made his will.
Children of Benjamin and Abigail (Palfrey) Jeffrey:
1. Benjamin, b. Boston 19 June 1729, m. (1) (int. Boston 15 Apr 1756) Abigail Giles of Salem; m. (2) King's Chapel, Boston, 6 Jan 1771 Salome Rieford.
Child of Capt. John and Abigail (Palfrey) (Jeffrey) Corney, order uncertain:
