Our PALINGs come from the Lowdham area in Nottinghamshire, where we have traced the name back to the 1600s.

Nottinghamshire is one of the largest groupings of PALINGs in the UK that I have come across.

PALING is a Dutch name connected with eel fishermen and there are large groups of Palings in Southern Holland. I have not however found a connection with the Dutch and UK Palings. It is possible that the spelling has changed over the years from PALIN which could be Welsh or Irish.

There are a number of Thomas Palings from
the Lowdham area that are related me.
