Palmateer Point in Oregon

Was wondering if anyone knew how PALMATEER POINT in Oregon got its name ?? This is east of portland about 70 miles.

My Father was born and raised in Reedville Oregon. I know There used to a lot of PALMAtEER's in oregon and I heard they came there in the 1840's 1850's

Dad changed the spelling of his name while working in the Portland Shipyard during World War I (one). He sais he had two cousins working there with same name as him and it got confusing.

would like to hear from any Palmateers from the area who might be related..

Jack Palmatier (Palmateer)
