Dear William,
We Palmore's always thought we were a product of some renegade Indians because we could never find any other Palmore's except the ones we knew from Powhatan. We always ignored any with the spelling Palmer. Now that I have been doing some genealogy I have learned that people misspell names--even those in the family. Several months ago when family tree maker went on the net I had been looking for several names. This weekend I happened to get far enough through the list and came across your posting. Here again the spelling--my gggrandfather's name is listed as Medletas Palmore. My mother did this genealogy several years before she
died so she could have copied it wrong or my great uncle who gave her the info could have. He was in his 80's and confused sometimes. I feel as if is the same name because it's not a common one. He was married twice. Don't know the name of the first, but the children from that union were Big Joe,Spencer, and Guss. His second wife was a Miss Bosher. From this union were Little Joe, Bern, Frank,James, and George Melvin(my ggrandfather. My mother had roomed in my grandfather's home when she was teaching in the Brunswick County. She had always heard that Wesley Palmore was a brother to George Melvin, but this uncle with the info didn't list him but had always referred to him as Uncle Wesley. I have a newspaper article which I could send to you if I had your address later about Wesley Palmore being a schoolmaster in Powhatan. His children are listed as Elsie(married a Palmore cousin),May(also married a cousin),Willie(female, married a Barber),Bertia, and Hattie(who married a cousin of my mother's--Joseph Wray). There were two boys--Sam Charles Palmore and Manie Melvin Palmore. I have not dates for any of this. I guess the female named Willie would be for her father William Wesley. I hope this isn't so confusing and that I have helped your some. Rebecca Palmore Hood e-mail address <
