My grandfather was James Monroe Palmer, b. July 25, 1871. His father was Marshall Robert Palmer, b. February 20, 1847.
We believe that Marshall Robert Palmer's parents were John and Mary Palmer. Information from the 1850 census indicates that John and Mary Palmer had a son named Marshall (age 3) and a daughter named Margary (4). The census also indicates that John was born in South Carolina and that Mary was born in Alabama.
James Monroe Palmer lived all of his life in Butler County Alabama and he and his father Marshall Robert Palmer are buried there in a country cemetery.
I was born in 1938 in Butler County and have heard all my life that some of our relatives had changed their name to Palmer from Palmore. Haven't been able yet to document. Now I learn that the Palmores may have changed their names from Palmer. I am not surprised since there are so many Johns, James, Williams. Example, my father was James E., and among his 5 brothers was John and William. My dad also had 5 sisters.
Also I know there are some Yeldells buried in Butler County. It seems very likely that this John and Mary Palmer or Palmore may be Marshall Robert Palmer's parents. It seems also likely that if John's father was named Marshall, then he would name one of his sons Marshall.
Hope someone can enlighten me.
