Please add the following variants of Polsgrove spellings to the first list:
Baltzgrove, Busgrove, Falscroft, Falsgrove, Faltsgiver?, Faltsgrove, Pagrave, Palgrave,
Pallscraft, Palscroff, Palscroft, Palsegrove, Paltgrove, Paltzgroff, Paltzgroor, Palzcrapt,
Paulgrave, Paulscraft, Paulsgroff, Pelgrave, Pelgrift, Pfalzgraff, Pfalzgraph, Phalagray,
Poldsfoffer, Polegraves, Polestoffer, Polgrov, Pollsgraf, Polsdoffer, Polsgrave.
In addition to what I said about recorders writing names phonetically, there is the problem we all
have in deciphering old handwriting styles. Many of these variants don’t sound like Polsgrove,
but, for someone transcribing, who doesn’t know what the name should be, it is easy to mis-
write a name as well.
One example is the name “David” or “Daniel.” It is very often that I see what looks like David
to actually be Daniel and so on.
Continued good hunting
