My great-grandfather Salvatore (Sam), the son of Salvatore Fortunato, went to Morley, CO to work in the mines there, then eventually moved to Trinidad, CO. His last suriving child, my great aunt Josephine Palumbo, passed away last year. I have been in contact with some decendants of his brother Vincenzo (Vincent) who settled in New Iberia, LA. It does sound like we are talking about the same family, doesn't it? I had also heard that one of the brothers went to Argentina - but I don't know for certain which one.
I have actually been building the family tree for this whole family, and have found some birth and marriage records on microfilm for Cefalu, Sicily, Italy. It has been very confusing to try to build this family, because the birth records of the children in Italy list their surname as Palumbo, but their marriage records record it as Esposito inteso Palumbo. The only thing that I found that links the two names is that on several of the childrens' marriage allegati's it states "by the judgement of the tribunal court in Termini Imerese on 7 Oct 1886, the birth act was rectified of the name and surname of the father [Salvatore Fortunato] was incorrectly reported as Fortunato Palumbo, instead the name should be Esposito Salvatore inteso Palumbo." I haven't been able to find out what that means exactly, or why the mistake was made.
If you'd like to email me directly, I'd be happy to share what I've learned about this family. Which one of Vincent's children are you descended from?
