Pamplin, VA was named after Nicholas Calvin Pamplin. The Norfolk & Western Railroad was extending their lines in 1854 through an area which @ Vthat time was called Merryman's Shop. Nicholas was the only property owner that allowed the railroad to cross his property without charge. They thus named the train station & the town is his honor. I understand that the Pamplin Station still stands today. I have a print of the simple brick structure. I believe that they change the name from Pamplin City to just Pamplin, VA.
More info on Pamplin, VA could probably be obtained from the newspaper in Appomattox, VA. Nicholas was born on 29 Mar. 1803 and died on 6 July, 1872. He in burried in Pamplin, VA. I have info on his ancestry if you are interested.
