Pancoast Family History
Recently while traveling in England I went to Northampton to research the Panckhurst/Pancoast family. We know John Panckhurst/Pancoast left from Ashton, Northampton, for New Jersey in1680, and has a certificate of removal from the Bugbrooke Quaker meeting in Northamptonshire. But Quaker records that go back to 1647 show no Panckhurst; nor do the Church records for Ashton (that only go back to 1682).The 1674 hearth tax does not include this family and a listing of clergymen going back to the 1500s finds no "Rev. Samuel Panckhurst."It is likely this family is not native to Northamptonshire.Ashton is near the border of Buckinghamshire, and here we do find some Panckhurst families in the middle 1600s.This family may have lived for a while in Ashton before coming to America, but they are not from there.
