Charles S Pape, 1880's Italy

My husband's great grandfather came from Italy to the US (unsure of where in Italy)in the 1880's as a child. I believe his father's name was Mike and his mother's name was Rosary. We have no information on him other than he married Carmella Fiore in 1909 in Chicago and we have a photo of him wearing boxing attire (no gloves) which we assume was after he moved to the US. Ellis Island has great information for post 1900 travel to the US so I cannot find anything on him.
