My father, according to the information I have, would have been born around 1942 or 1943. He met my biological mother in San Francisco in 1969 and was living there at the time. They only dated briefly, so she doesn't remember a whole lot about his background and his age is only a ballpark guess. She seems to recall that he was a graduate student and had a young daughter from a previous marriage or relationship. I've contacted a few Richard Papes around the country that come close to the age criteria, but so far have not had any luck with finding the right person or family. You are so right when you say that things are not always what you were told when doing this kind of research; you have to keep your mind open to all kinds of possibilities!
